Never, Nuver, Nevanev

So long time forever.

Bjork concert this past Wednesday. No need to even bother talking about how fucking amazing it was.

Onward, Extra Life is killing New York City by storm. Charlie Looker, of Zs, basically destroys a guitar beautifully and sings Gregorian chants. "Destroy" is a strong word. It's more like making violent love to an appreciative six-string woman while serenading her with soaring modal lullabyes. After 4.5 years of elitist music school bullshit, it's rare to find someone who so completely impresses and moves me with technical music. Extra Life would make Don Carlo Gesualdo and Aristotle proud with his Dorian adventures.

Extra Life also does the full band thing, but I have yet to see it live. As of yet, there is a 3 song ep on FNA Show Releases which, poor recording aside, is really beautiful.

CONSUME!

Recently, there was an uproar when Avey Tare, of Animal Collective fame, leaked his first solo album backwards. Indietorrents and the Animal Collective board were in an uproar. How could such a ridiculous thing happen. Maybe Avey's wife Kria Brekken was the next Yoko Ono. Could this be a ploy to mess with download dudes. Maybe Harry Potter got so buff that Avey and Kria couldn't image a world where their album existed as it was recorded. NO!

Avey Tare came out of seculsion to announce that there was no mistake. Pullhair Rubeye is not backwards. Your conception is backwards. Your world is constructed on a flimsy set of expectations and you are just going to have to deal with it or turn them around using any number of freeware programs.

Pullhair Rubeye belongs backwards. Tare and Brekken flipped it around after a depressing Christmas spent watching a David Lynch movie without their family. This album makes sense this way. I've listened both ways. The phrasing and structure on songs like Opis Helpus actually makes more sense in opposite world. Tare's pysch-pop sensibilities shine through this strange and beautiful incarnation. Pullhair Rubeye is a warm blanket of sound. Not the kind of blanket that keeps you warm in the winter, but the kind that you put over your footsying feet at the beach after dark whilst holding hands with that girl who works at the really cool co-op bookstore that you finally mustered up the courage to talk to.

Also, this album is the perfect soundtrack to "The Adventures of Beartooth".
